Mercer Island Redevelopment

constructionThe sale of the old Farmers Insurance building in the Mercer Island Towncenter has happened at last. According to the article linked below, the plan is two-fold. The 1980s office building will be redeveloped, and the large parking structure will become condos. I really like the vibe that developer Ryan Cos. brought to Kirkland Urban, so I’m excited about what their vision is for here. I hope they plan for parking whatever they do!

This is the second big development project getting rolling in the Mercer Island Towncenter. Design approval has been give to another mixed-use development just down the block. The location is just across the street from popular grocer New Seasons Market.

With the new light rail station only blocks away, it seems developers and the city are expecting a sharp up-tick in desirability here come 2023. Islanders are expressing mixed sentiments about these plans. I think the towncenter will become a more vibrant urban village with these changes!
