I’ve been watching West Seattle news pretty closely, especially since the bridge closure. I see an opportunity there, both for buyers wanting to get into the market, and for the community to evolve. For example, there could be a shift towards public transit as the primary gateway, and more local shopping and dining options. (more…)

Western Washington
Mondays with Matthew 4/27
Are you concerned about the housing market collapsing like it did in 2007, at the start of the Great Recession? If so, you aren’t alone. Matthew Gardner discusses some comparisons between then and now, which should bring you some peace of mind.
Mondays with Matthew 4/20
Today Matthew’s video discusses what’s been driving current home prices. He explains components of the economy which are putting upward pressure on housing prices, and highlights differences compared to the 2008 bubble. This is timely for the people who have been asking me if we are in another one.
I also recently read that tightened lending, due to the current economic crisis, is going to make it even harder for new construction financing. I expect we will see a big drop in new single-family homes this year. That, of course, will add to the demand for existing homes. Shoot me your questions!
West Seattle Bridge Detour
Handy map put out by the Seattle Times! I was wondering how to get over to West Seattle, now that the West Seattle bridge has been closed indefinitely. The city says until 2021, but they don’t know if it is fixable yet. Even if they did, there isn’t a budget for it. So I wouldn’t count on it being even as soon as 2021. A light-rail extension is planned for the neighborhood, so maybe there’s a way to address this unexpected issue at the same time? Home values may be affected by the difficulty accessing the area for the next couple of years, which can open an opportunity for new home buyers.

This is from a new video series from Windermere Real Estate featuring our own economist, Matthew Gardner. I have found his short explanations about the economy, interest rates, and other topics to be very informative. Feel free to share!
